New Words
na-yi နာရီ hour, clock
mí-niq မိနစ် minute
Examples of times
Notes
Note that tiq, hniq, k’un-hniq weaken as usual (see Lesson 1.5, 1.7, 1.9):
tǎna-yi တစ်နာရီ one o’clock
k’un-nǎna-yi ခုနှစ်နာရီ seven o’clock
And the Round Number Rule is observed (see 2.1):
Half past the hour is sometimes shortened. For example, for “6.30”, in place of the pattern above, you may hear:
c’auq-na-yi-gwèh ခြောက်နာရီခွ 6:30
and so on for other times. The suffix -k’wèh/-gwèh means “and a half”.
